Fans of Kristin Chenoweth frequently debate about what role she was most recognized for by the American public. Even experts in the entertainment industry cannot agree on this seemingly simple idea. Due to her impressive success in film, television, and musical theatre, this is unlikely to be soon agreed upon. What is clear, however, is that she first became involved in the entertaining business at the tender age of 12, when she sang a solo at the Southern Baptist Convention national conference. Following this performance she continued to focus on her vocal talent, later studying musical theatre in college.
After her college years, Kristin Chenoweth landed a role in the musical Animal Crackers in New York City. Soon following this part she was cast in other regional theatre and off-Broadway productions such as Phantom, Babes in Arms, Scapin, and The Fantasticks. In 1997, Kristin Chenowith broke onto Broadway with her appearance as Precious McGuire in Steel Pier, for which she received a Theatre World Award. Two years later she was confirmed as a Broadway mainstay with her Tony Award, Drama Desk Award, and Outer Critics Circle Award for her featured role in the revival of You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown.
Kristin Chenoweth has continued to be well-received on Broadway, as demonstrated by the numerous additional awards she has won and been nominated for. Wicked, one of the top 20 longest running Broadway musicals in history, showcased Kristin Chenoweth in the part of Glinda the witch and is loosely based on classic The Wizard of Oz. Nominated for a Tony and Drama Desk Award, she received a Broadway.com Audience Award for Best Onstage Pair which she shared with Idina Menzel. She also received numerous awards and nominations for her Broadway musicals The Apple Tree and Promises, Promises.
Aside from the prestige of Broadway, Kristin Chenoweth has also shined in her television roles. Perhaps her most well-known television role was as Annabeth Schott on the long-running drama The West Wing, for which she shared a nomination for a Screen Actors Guild Award with her fellow cast members. She was also nominated for a Primetime Emmy Award for her guest acting on the successful musical show Glee, for which she received a Special Achievement Satellite Award as well. Other television appearances include Ugly Betty, Frasier, Pushing Daisies (in which she was a main character), and The Apprentice.
The movie industry has not eluded Kristin Chenoweth either, with voice roles in animated films including the Tinkerbell movies, Space Chimps, and A Sesame Street Christmas Carol. Appearing in both made-for-TV movies and Blockbuster films, she has shared the big screen with actors such as Will Ferrell, Steve Martin, Reese Witherspoon, and Robin Williams. Just a few of her many film credits are in movies such as RV, Bewitched, The Pink Panther, Family Weekend, and Running with Scissors. With all of the awards and credits in the different sectors of the entertainment industry, Kristin Chenoweth is expected to continue to gain the love of audiences for many more years.
